1951 - Rev Eric Ronald Chapman - 1958

Left - St Marks Sermons with the Rev Eric Ronald Chapman.

Looking back it was a rough life. About Coe st, we used to walk up past what was the Mill walls , just on the right was a piece of spare land that we called the Coal Hills. It was fenced off and I think that it was a dump belonging to the Coal merchants that was on the same row as St Marks school. We used to sneak in and slide down these slag Heaps on tin trays , we had great fun exploring that place. It was a small bit of green wilderness within the usual stink that hung around that horrible mill and all the surrounding streets. That scary satanic mill , we lived next to it and at 5or 6 am every morning this horrible Mill siren went off and woke us all up. We lived within yards of that horrible loud siren, I think it died or was destroyed around 1959. It wasn't all that bad
