Persian Mills (Bayley Mill)

Once located on Bayley St (named after the original owner) and Gaskell St.

1853 James and John Bayley

1882 Persian Mill destroyed by fire £70.000 damage

1883 - 1884 Re-Built John Harwood and Son and heavily fire-proofed they had concrete floors over eleven inches thick.

1884 John Bayley and Sons Ltd

1923 Persian Mills Ltd

1947 May 23rd Bolton's first contingent of European volunteer workers (formerly known as displaced persons) has arrived, and is settling down to work at John Harwood and Sons Persian Mill, Bayley St. Two of the four women who have come are Lithuanians, and two White Russians. They cannot speak English, but everything possible is being done to help them overcome the language difficulty and to make them feel welcome.

1961 Closed as a Cotton Mill

1985 Porter Lancastrian

1986 Demolished

2007 Now housing estate.
